As there is very little original programming left on TV, I must resort to discussing one of my shows, which has been severely hurting lately.
Grey's Anatomy has been one of my favorite shows. I own Season 1 & 2, and I love that Patrick Dempsey has made a comeback...and as a sexy neurosurgeon heartthrob no less. During Season 3 I started to question my devotion. I hated the way Season 3 ended (Christina being left at the altar and Meredith and Derek kaput - even after her dramatic near-death experience), but I was willing to see where they would take it. Unfortunately - in my opinion - they took it right down the tubes.
1) I hate Izzie. I assumed I disliked Katherine Heigl, but then I saw Knocked Up and thought she was adorable in it. So, really, I hate Izzie and her monologues, and the fact that she shares info when she shouldn't, and the scene where she performed surgery on a deer in the parking lot. As she pined for George I just wanted to ask her - don't you remember Denny - you know that guy you were in love with who died? Can anyone think of any redeeming Izzy qualities?
2) I used to relate to Meredith's neurotic sensibilities. I was rooting for her. I even felt a pang of something when she almost drowned. Yes, I cried when she finally revived and her BFF Christina was by her side, and all of her scenes with her mother were heartbreaking. But, it seems that when they killed off her mom, they kind of did the same with her and I feel like I've hardly seen her this season. Isn't this GREY'S Anatomy?
3) Rose. I understand Derrick needs to move on. But, the introduction of her character was a bit contrived and transparent, and oh hell, maybe I just don't want him to move on quite yet.
4) I miss Addison. Private Practice is not cutting it for me. Also, truth be told Dr. Burke did leave a bit of a gaping wound too. But, hey, can't make public comments and always keep your job, eh?
5) Okay, so Christina Yang still rocks, but she's really the only saving grace.
I stumbled across this petition to Shonda Rhimes and ABC to "Save Grey's Anatomy". I agree with almost 100% of it, so I signed it. Not a lot of good it will do (especially with the strike seemingly stuck in time), but for all you fellow frustrated fans, I thought I'd pass it along. I'm going to go wallow in a few episodes of Season 2 now.
Today's first discovery was bloody pee on the side of cat's litterbox and near it. Not good.
Discovery #2 - My new animal hospital has a McVet*. With all due respect to my beloved husband, I must say that the new Veterinarian is rather attractive. I was actually expecting someone like our last Vet (who had a unibrow and was definitely eccentric), or the one previous to that who was a Transsexual (I first met him as Allen, and later met her as Jane). So, though I consider myself a confident and sane woman the fact that he's cute AND the Vet makes me nervous, and I actually have a hard time answering a couple of his questions regarding the cat's behavior. This in turn makes him a bit nervous. It's just awkward.
Discovery #3 - Cat does not have enough pee to give proper urine sample. Must leave cat for a few hours at animal hospital.
Discovery #4 - (At home now) Cat also has left a turd (now dry) behind the glider in my daughter's room. I suspect this has nothing to do with bloody pee. This has everything to do with my idea to replace her clay litter with environmentally-friendly pine litter (which apparently she hates and will not defecate on).
Discovery #5 - McVet says our cat has Feline Cystitis. It's basically a really bad urinary-tract infection for cats. She gets antibiotics and hopefully will not suffer irreparable kidney damage. She will need to return to the animal hospital at some point next week so they can check her again, and possibly put her on a special diet to avoid another episode.
Whoever said cats are low-maintenance obviously never owned one.
*McVet is a Grey's Anatomy reference from Season 2. Chris O'Donnell played a dreamy veterinarian and thus the moniker McVet.
So, it was the Grey's Anatomy season finale last night, and I actually fell asleep thinking about the characters and processing what happened in the episode. I walked away from the TV actually mad, and professing to my husband that I wasn't going to watch next season (which we all know is probably untrue). I was mad that a show I absolutely adored last season, essentially went down the toilet this season because the characters were inconsistent, and several plot points were blatently fabricated...thus, making it predictable and unrewarding to watch.
There's a lot I could write about it, but basically... it boils down to the fact that I can't relate anymore with the main character. Part of why we like any show is the relativity factor, and that's where it's lost me. Dr.Derek Shepard is a hot neurosurgeon who jumped in the cold Seattle water to save his quasi-suicidal girlfriend, whom he professes his love to in an uber vulnerable manner....and then she just shuts him down by saying she can't respond at the moment. I know Meredith is supposed to be damaged and all, but way to take the wind out of the man's sails! I understand the nature of dramatic writing, and formulating cliffhangers for a new season, but SERIOUSLY??????
Ok, so one of my guilty pleasures is "Grey's Anatomy". I watch it every Thurs. at 9p, which means I need to type fast. Needless to say, I've been a bit disappointed lately in the show. If you're not a fan of show, please excuse the following rant, which will make no sense to you whatsoever.
So, I didn't think it was so unrealistic that Meredith survived the drowning. Really. I mean, she probably should have died if this was real life, but it's TV, so... ok.... but, I was upset at how she was miraculously doing rounds in the episode following her drowning and incidentally her mother's death! I thought she should have been laid up for one episode at least. Then, don't even get me started on how annoying Izzy is with her diatribes, and how Addison has evolved into an Ally McBeal (what happened to the strong, bitchy ice queen from NY???). I generally don't have a beef with the male characters, but I think this is because Shonda Rhimes has cast them supportively versus centrally. I thought the show was super strong and compelling in season 1 & 2, and I'm just SERIOUSLY disappointed by season 3.
Needless to say, even with my vehement disappointment, guess what I'm doing in 10 min.???? Tuning in, of course. I guess I'm just too invested at this point, and judging by the fact that I'm blogging about it, I must care, right?
